Feb 17 Engaged: Brandynn + John

In October, Brandynn and John attended our Designer Bridal Event. They were searching for the perfect engagement ring. During the event, they were entered to win a wedding dress and flowers for their wedding. As luck would have it, they ended up winning! Here is their wonderful love story, as told by Brandynn.

How did the two of you meet?

We met at a mutual friend’s birthday party, at a bowling alley, about 4 years ago.

When did you know he/she was the one?

We knew that there was something very special when we started spending time with our families. Early on we both loved spending time with family and friends, which is incredibly important to us.

What are some activities and interests that you two share?

We both love sports, especially hockey, our favourite team is the Edmonton Oilers. We love going for walks with our puppy, Sadie and spending time with family and friends. My favourite thing to do is cuddle up in front of the fireplace and spend time with my soon to be hubby!

The Proposal

John proposed in our house, in front of the fireplace. We had just finished watching an Oilers game. We turned the TV off and were about ready to head to bed. John was going to take our puppy outside for a quick walk. Instead of going outside he went and grabbed the ring and came back into the room. He got down on one knee in front of the fireplace and I immediately teared up. He asked me to marry him and with a few tears in my eyes, I said yes! The ring was gorgeous, he slipped it onto my finger and I gave him the biggest hug. It was a very special night.

What are some of your favourite things about your ring?

My ring is gorgeous! We had gone shopping a few times together to look at rings. John knew the styles I liked, but it was still a surprise because John picked it himself.

Tell us a little bit about your shopping experience at GMG.

We went to GMG a couple of times to look at rings, each time we had a great experience. When my mom and I went looking at rings, Robert spent a lot of time helping me decide what exactly I was interested in. They have such a huge selection. John also went there on his own, then the two of us went together again. Looking at rings was a bit overwhelming as there were so many choices, but Robert helped make it enjoyable and was able to show me the most incredible rings.

What are you most excited about on your wedding day?

I am so excited about our wedding day! I cannot wait to share our day with all of our loved ones. Our wedding planning has gone well so far, which makes it so much easier. We decided to get an amazing photographer (JC Photography) and hired a videographer as well. I am most excited that our day and memories will be captured forever. We will be able to look back on it and show our children and grandchildren how amazing that day was!

How has the pandemic affected the way you are planning your wedding? Have you had to make any changes or compromises?

Planning a wedding during a pandemic has been very difficult. We had originally had a guest list of between 300-400 people. We know that our wedding will be very different from what we had originally envisioned or planned for. The unknown of what restrictions or life will look like come our wedding is most definitely stressful. There is so much that is unknown at this point, however, there is one thing I know, I want to marry this amazing man. Our day will be amazing no matter what!

All the businesses and individuals that we have been working with have been extremely understanding and flexible. We will plan as much as we can right now, hopefully, there will be fewer restrictions closer to our big day and we will be able to invite all of our family and friends.

We decided to spend more of our budget on a great photographer and videographer. Due to the pandemic, we know there will be many people that aren’t going to be able to celebrate with us. Through photos and videos, it will allow others to be part of our day, even if they couldn’t be there in person.
