True Love: Brianna + Kole

True Love: Brianna + Kole

Brianna and Kole are a fun, goofy, loveable couple that got engaged back in January. These two met through their first-year roommates at university. They became great friends and only started dating in their second-year of university. They love playing multiple sports together and being outdoors, and when that tires them out, they cuddle up with popcorn and a movie! Let’s get into their love story!

When did you know he/she was the one? Brianna: I knew Kole was the one a couple years after we started dating. I think I always knew that he was a keeper, but ultimately, I figured it out after we went on a couple vacations together and really got to see how he handled traveling with me. Also after a couple years of dating you typically get to see your partner at their best and worst. You get to see their weaknesses and strengthens, their annoying habits and absolute goofy actions. You really get to see the full package but it takes a lot of time to see everything. I knew that Kole has a great personality, he loves his family, he has good morals and values, and he makes me a better person. We complement each other very well. I know he will be an amazing father and amazing life partner. I couldn’t have asked for anything more, he is my everything.

Kole: It would be hard to pin down an exact date when I knew she was ‘the one’. We had many deep and meaningful conversations as soon as we started dating and were on topics such as what do you think the rest of your life looks like after university, what are your core values, do you want a family, how many kids do you want, what are your dreams, what kind of wedding would you want, etc. I told her I loved her first and she wasn’t ready to say it back yet which was totally okay but the first time she told me (I think it was an accident since she was getting out of my car as I dropped her off at the university and she just said it as she was closing the door) my heart was so full of love and I was over the moon. Sometime during the blur that was university we talked about our future lives and we both knew that the future plans involved each other. We have been on many adventures together and my love for her grew with each adventure so I would have to say that there was never one moment I knew but a series of small moments that made me realize she makes me happier than I thought anyone could.

Give us a brief overview of how you popped the question Kole. It was at the end of January 2019, right in the middle of that cold snap. It was planned weeks in advance, since I had to coordinate with my cousin who was going to take pictures of the moment and do an impromptu engagement photo session right after. I woke up very early, got dressed and took the ring with me. As I was leaving I lied to her, saying that I was going to get some groceries (super believable to get those at 8am on a Sunday right?). She said whatever and rolled back over to bed. I left a note on the table for her to get dressed and that her ride would be there shortly.

Once I was ready at the location I called her and told her to go look at the note. I had my brother pick her up and bring her to Boffin’s Garden, where I was waiting at the end of a long path under the archway with my photographer lying in wait to capture the moment. When she arrived she kind of walked past me and didn’t see me at first, so I got her attention with a little whistle and as soon as she turned, she started laughing and tearing up. She took her sweet time walking down the path to me and that only made me more anxious for what I was going to say. She previously told me that if my pre-proposal speech was not good enough she would say no, you can try again another day. Once she arrived I started to tell her all the reasons I love her and how much she has made my life better. I don’t remember if I got to all the points I was planning on saying since I was kind of in a daze looking into her crying, happy eyes. After I felt like it was long enough (I had no sense of time so it was a gamble) I got down on one knee and asked her to be my wife. She was crying so much she was barely able to say yes; but she did and I put the ring on her finger. Then before we could go she said that she needed to tell me the reasons she loves me so that was cute too. Then she didn’t see my cousin so as we walked in his direction; she saw him and was so happy the moment was caught on camera.

What are some of your favourite things about your ring Brianna? I am absolutely in love with my ring. It is absolutely beautiful; I love it so much. Kole and I went ring shopping together. We both had discussed getting engaged and married, and that I would love to pick a ring out with Kole. It actually was probably one of the most fun things to do as a couple. We both went ring shopping together and I remember both of us being so giddy when we went shopping. We felt so many butterflies in our stomach. We got a feeling of like, oh my gosh, this is for real, I am going to spend the rest of my life with this person?! It was pretty magical.

At the same time it definitely was kind of tough, there are so many choices for rings! I was so happy that I went with Kole to pick out a ring. I had saved a lot of pictures of rings I thought I would love on Instagram and then when I tried it on in the store it was compete opposite of what I believed looked good on my finger. Either way if you go shopping with your boyfriend or if you want to go by yourself or with a friend and then drop some hints to your partner, I definitely think its worth going to a store and trying the ring to see how it suits your hand. Plus it was lots of fun trying on all these beautiful rings! But I’m not going to lie I had to go back to the store a couple times because by the end I was overwhelmed with all the options and I needed to come back with fresh eyes to choose the one. Kole and I narrowed it down to two rings at the end and I told him to choose, but I definitely was hinting to the one I liked the most. In the end he got the one that I fell in love with. It has a split shank, a beautiful round diamond, and a beautiful halo of diamonds. One aspect of the ring that I absolutely fell in love with is the wave-like pattern on the edge of the ring, the ripples remind me of the ocean. I can’t stop looking at it everyday, it catches my eye all the time. I definitely have been complemented on the ring a lot. So many people say that is very beautiful, and so, so shiny. I always love to look at different people’s engagement rings; they are all so unique and beautiful. I especially love when Kole catches my ring sparkling in the light and tells me how beautiful it looks on me. That definitely makes me blush.

Tell us a little bit about your shopping experience at GMG. Our shopping experience was exceptional! We had gone in several times to check out the rings and every single time we were welcomed immediately as we walked in the door. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed learning lots about different metals and the quality of the rings. We got to learn about the World’s Most Perfectly Cut Diamond from Hearts on Fire. It was a lot of fun to learn about how diamonds are cut and the reflection of light and how it passes through a diamond. We learned that no diamond is the same and all about cut, clarity, etc. To us that was very important to understand the characteristics that come into play when choosing a diamond. I enjoyed understanding my diamonds qualities. Therefore we know its uniquely my own.

What are three of the most important aspects to you when planning your wedding? Brianna: Planning our wedding has been a lot of fun. The most important things for me is to have the people at our wedding that we love and to share our happy day with family and friends. We want to have an intimate wedding but also have everyone we love so our wedding will be about 150 people which I think is not too small and not too big. I can’t wait to walk down the aisle and exchange our vows. It is definitely the most precious moment of the day. But I also can’t wait to hear all of the speeches from both Kole and I’s parents and our closest friends. I am really looking forward to most is dancing the night away with everyone that I love and having an unforgettable night.

Kole: People since we love our families so much; it wouldn’t be a wedding without them. Patience, since not everything will get done as soon as you like but it is a journey planning it together. And finally, fun; since that is why we’re doing this whole thing. We want to have fun together for the rest of our lives so we try inject a little fun in everything we do from cooking/cleaning to playing sports and making goofy faces at each other on the court/field.

What do you look forward to most about married-life? Brianna: I am looking forward to all of the challenges and rewards our life will have to offer. I’m looking forward to building a family and enjoying life everyday together.

Kole: Just spending time together whether it is making supper in the kitchen or on vacation to escape the Saskatchewan winters.

What aspect are you most excited about for your wedding day? Any details that you are willing to share? Brianna: I’m really happy to have all of our siblings in our wedding party. As you get older your relationships change with your siblings and I am looking forward to continuing to build our sibling relationships. I know that our wedding party is filled with lots of fun people and I’m looking forward to laughing and having a fun-filled day. I’m looking forward to our first dance, I think at that moment time will stop as I stare into the eyes of my husband and he holds me close, smiling at me, saying this is the first day of the rest of our lives together. It kinda gives me butterflies just thinking about it now.

Kole: I would say the party and finally signing the document that says she is my wife and I can stop calling her my common law wife haha! Brianna loves the speeches and thinks they are the best part of the wedding so all those who will be talking better step their game up!

Anything else you want to share Kole? We have booked the honeymoon, and we are going to DisneyWorld. Brianna has been bugging me to take her there for years so I am happy we get to experience the magic of the “Happiest Place on Earth” together.
