7 Things to do Right After Getting Engaged

7 Things to do Right After Getting Engaged

You just got engaged! How exciting! But what do you do now? Wedding planning can be stressful and you might have no idea where to start. We are going to go through the first seven things you should do after getting engaged.

Tell Your Close Family and Friends

Make sure to tell all of the important people in your life that you are engaged. Whether that’s a phone/video call, a coffee date or just the next time you see them, you want to make sure they feel honoured to be told in person and not through a post.

Get Your Ring Insured and Sized

If your fiance hasn’t done it already, get ring insurance! It’s super important, it covers loss, theft, damage, disappearance and travel. It gives you peace of mind that your items are protected, just like your house or car. Sizing your ring is a no-brainer because you don’t want your new ring falling off or cutting off circulation. Odds are that he guessed on your size unless you told him before he went shopping.

Set a Budget

Before you start planning your wedding, set a budget! How… Do some research to find approximate costs so you know what to expect and can accurately set your budget.

When/Where do You Want to Get Married

Now that you have a budget, start thinking about when you want to get married and call venues to book as soon as you can! Many places book one to two years in advance, so if you don’t want a long engagement, book sooner rather than later. This will also give you peace of mind because now you have your end goal and can start thinking more about details like decor, colours, etc. and a timeline of when everything needs to get done.

Book the Main Things!

Great, you have a day and a venue! Time to book the other essentials! Your caterer, photographer, DJ/band, etc., basically anyone that can’t be in two places at once.

Now that all the major decisions are made and you have told everyone close to you, can you post that ring selfie on social media! We know that it’s probably killing you to not share it but you are going to have people asking right away “when’s the wedding?” It’s nice to have decisions made before you share so you can truly celebrate with everyone you know.

Celebrate!

Everyone knows now! Celebrate! You have the big decisions out of the way so enjoy this time as a newly engaged couple before the rest of the planning happens.

After the celebrating has calmed down and you’ve gotten off the high, start thinking about the wedding band you are going to pair with that beautiful ring! Rings can take up to six weeks to come in, so it’s better to start looking sooner rather than later. GMG has thousands of bands to choose from and our diamond specialists can help you find the perfect one. Congrats to all the newly engaged couples!
