Winning the Perfect Wedding Gown

In October, we hosted our bi-annual Designer Ring Event. We brought hundreds of new styles from our top designers. For the first time ever, we gave away a wedding dress and flowers to one lucky couple.

Brandynn and John were that lucky couple! John had purchased an engagement ring at the event and proposed at the end of January. They wasted no time, starting the wedding planning almost immediately. Within a week Brandynn was at W Bridals, shopping for the wedding dress of her dreams. It may have been the coldest day of the year but it was a day she won’t soon forget.

Where did you look for inspiration and ideas for the wedding dress you wanted?

I did not look into wedding dresses very much prior to dress shopping.  I did take a look online to see what styles of dresses W Bridals had, just so I had an idea of what I was looking for. However, I was very open to trying anything.

What were the specific details you were looking for in your wedding dress?

When I was younger, I always wanted a big, princess wedding dress but once I started looking around, I realized this was no longer what I wanted. Clearly, styles had changed and so had I. I loved the dresses with lace, tiny details and higher necklines. Open-backed dresses really caught my eye as well.  

Did winning your dress from GMG change the way shopped for your dress?

Winning my dress definitely did change the way I shopped for my dress. I would have shopped local either way, as I wanted the experience of shopping for dresses with my bridal party and my mom.  Knowing that I didn’t have to pay for the dress took a great deal of stress off my mind. I didn’t have to worry about finding a dress I absolutely loved only to find out it was out of my price range.  When trying on wedding dresses, I did not look at the prices, not once!  It was such a great feeling, not a lot of brides have that opportunity. It came down to two dresses at the end, I did not even look at the price to help make my decision.  I would have normally let price be a very important factor in my decision.  This way I only looked at the price when Kim was actually ordering my dress!

Is the dress you picked what you were looking for? Or were you surprised by your choice?

I was fairly surprised by my final choice.  I had an idea of what I wanted but that changed while I was trying on dresses. The staff at W Bridals were extremely helpful, bringing me dresses based on the styles I was interested in and even making suggestions about alterations that could be done to the dresses so they would fit perfectly.

Who helped you with the final decision and how did you know it was your wedding dress?

I had a lot of help deciding on my dress. I absolutely love the dress I chose but there were a few others I was deciding between. I did love this one but there were also a few others I really liked as well.  I relied on help from my mom and my three bridesmaids who were with me at the store. I also had my stepmom, future mother and sister-in-law over FaceTime in true COVID fashion. Kim at W Bridals also helped me narrow down between my final three.  She was very knowledgeable and was able to help me realize which small details I would notice on my wedding day and in pictures.  

Any favourite moments from the day?

I loved coming out of the dressing room and watching the faces of my bridesmaids and mom, as well as hearing the three other important ladies over the phone.

Brandynn found an absolutely stunning gown at W Bridals but we won’t be able to see it until her wedding day. Stay tuned as Brandynn and John head down the aisle this summer!
