Hitched: Carlene + Jordy

Hitched: Carlene + Jordy

On August 24th, 2019, Carlene and Jordy exchanged vows on their family farm in front of all their loved ones! It was a relaxed day, full of love and laughter! They had a boot stomping good time at their backyard wedding and we just had to share it! Read on to hear about their love story, as told by Carlene!

How and when did you both meet? We were introduced by our good friends, Shelby and Cole Corey, along with some insight and planning from Dianne Corey (like a second mom to Jordy) and Heather Kuiack (like a second mom to Carlene).

I met Shelby & Cole after photographing their wedding. Shelby tried to introduce Jordy and me twice over two years! The first time we all met for drinks and my brother, Bob, sat beside Jordy. One year later, I was complaining “why can’t I just meet a cute, single farmer that has land I can hunt on, and bonus if he has horses.” About a week later, Cole and Shelby text me to come for drinks, without me knowing they were also inviting Jordy. We finally sat beside each other and the rest is history!

Our first date was mule deer hunting - a great first date. No talking allowed, because you can't scare the deer! I also put safety first and sent my GPS tracking location to my parents... so far, so good.

When did you know he/she was the one? I don’t think either of us had a “moment” – we look at our relationship from a holistic point of view. We are a partnership, we look each other in the eyes, work on problems together, and are fine with seeing each other grow wrinkly!

Tell us about the proposal and ring! On Dec. 22nd, 2019, I photographed the arrival of my brother Bob’s daughter/my niece, Leighton. To commemorate the moment and the strength of my sister-in-law, Shannon, during 40 hours of labour, I went to GMG to buy Shannon a ring. I have always loved vintage rings and GMG’s heritage collection. While picking a ring for Shannon, I also pointed out a ring to Jordy that I loved! Little did I know, Jordy called Sandy the next day to buy the ring.

Jord proposed in January 2019, while we were out for a walk in our back pasture. He proposed in my favorite spot in the pasture!

What were your colours and theme? What adjectives would you use to describe your wedding? We just wanted everyone to come, enjoy themselves, eat, drink and be merry. We had a vintage theme with touches of western – mainly because that allowed us to reuse items that were left in our 100 year old farm house when we bought it.

We told guests to wear jeans and bunnyhugs – come as they were and to just enjoy the day. Being older, lots of our friends have kids, so we rented a bouncy castle for the kids to enjoy, which was a huge hit!

Are there any surprises, special moments, things that didn’t go quite is planned, or funny stories that happened to make the day extra special? Overall, it was a really great day! We’ve loved hearing back from friends and family saying it was one of the most fun weddings they’ve attended. That’s exactly what we wanted – people to come as they are, relax, enjoy good food, drinks, and friends!

Maybe the one thing that made it special was the involvement of our dog, Rexy. She spent the whole day with us. While it was totally unplanned, she ended up walking me down the aisle, perfectly sandwiched between my dad and I, then as we said our vows, she came in between us and face out into the crowd.

What were some of the things that made your day unique? I think the fact that we hosted it on our own farm yard made it unique. We also had a bouncy castle rented as we had over 75 kids in attendance!

What were your favourite memories and moments? I really enjoyed being home and being able to show people our yard and all the hard work we’ve put in over the past four years since owning the property. It was just really nice to catch up with family and friends and enjoy the day!

Do you have any advice for future brides? Remember, it’s one day of what is hopefully a long, happy marriage. Take the time to enjoy the day but don’t put your focus on the wedding – put it on your partnership and marriage. Although it was a crazy amount of work, I’m glad we did everything at our house. It was nice to have a relaxed day and not have to worry about rushing to different locations.

Thank you so much Carlene and Jordy for sharing your special day with us! We know the two of you will have a long, happy marriage together and we can’t wait to see how the two of you grow together over the next few years!
