Hitched: Brittanie + Scott

We are so happy to introduce you to GMG couple Brittanie and Scott, who were married in July in a beautiful ceremony at Wellington Park, in Manitou Beach, SK. These two love birds met in September of 2012 in residence at the University of Regina. Read on to hear the story of their love and wedding day.

When did you know that Brittanie was the girl of your dreams?

I don’t know that there was a specific moment for either of us; it just grew over the five years we’d been together. We both had similar values and wanted the same things out of life; we have the same sense of humour and just have the best time together. There is no one else that I would want to take on life with.

How did you propose Scott?

For the proposal I recreated our first date, when I told her where we were going to eat she responded with “we haven’t been there since our first date” and she seemed to be on to my plan right away. After supper at Rock Creek we went for a walk at the same park we went on our first date and it was there that I proposed to her looking out over Wascana Lake, directly across from the university where we met, had our first kiss, and fell in love. Our friend was waiting in the bushes with a camera to capture the moment and I could not thank him enough as it was freezing cold and we were about 45 minutes late! It was an amazing night and I couldn’t have been happier with how it went.

Now tell us about the ring and how you picked it out? Also what was your experience like at GMG?

When it came to the ring, Brittanie had shown me different styles that she liked and I was able to pick the perfect one. Brit dropped a few hints about this Noam Carver event at GMG but the date came and went and I told her I wasn’t able to check it out… but that was not true. I had driven to Saskatoon just for the event and bought the ring.

I worked with Sandy, as well as a Noam Carver rep. I knew the style she liked so I didn’t struggle with picking it out. Sandi was awesome to work with and answered all of my questions.

What are some of your favourite things about the ring, Brittanie?

Other than it’s sparkly! I love how dainty the band is, the detail under the diamond, and that it is by a Canadian designer.

Give us a brief overview of how your day was, Brittanie.

Our families live 8 hours apart, so rather than having one side have to drive the whole 8 hours, we decided to pick a spot somewhere in between. Manitou Beach has been one of our special places, ever since we started camping there 4 years ago. Manitou Beach is known for it’s small saltwater lake with legendary unsinkable waters, Canada's largest indoor mineral spa, and its beautiful 1930s dancehall with its famous horsehair dance floor. With many unique attractions, plenty of accommodations, and it’s historic dancehall, it seemed like the perfect little town to bring everyone together. We didn’t find out until later that our officiant, Bonnie, was actually on the board of Danceland and would play a huge role in our wedding.

We knew from the beginning that we wanted an outdoor ceremony. It just so happened that right across the street from Danceland was Wellington Park, the most serene park, which had plenty of space, big beautiful trees, a gazebo, and a small stream running all the way through it. Instead of having our ceremony in the big open space, we dreamt up the idea of having an unconventional ceremony amongst the trees, and having our guests on one side of the stream, and the wedding party on the other side.

We had perfect weather on our wedding day, 24 degrees and sunny, with a light breeze in the air. Seriously, what more could you ask for? The sound of the babbling brook provided the perfect background for the ceremony.

My dad, Jamie, and my step dad, Neil, walked me down the aisle to Tori Kelly’s I Was Made for Loving You. They walked me up to the small bridge, where Scott met them and took my hand to led me to the alter on the other side.

We spoke the vows to one another that we had put together with our officiant.  Our vows were Christ centered and matched the rest of the ceremony with ‘I choose you’ being the main theme. As we leaned in for our first kiss as man & wife, we had one groomsman and one bridesmaid pop confetti over us (biodegradable of course).

During the signing, we had my former high school teacher, Laine, and her husband, Chris, perform an acoustic version of I Choose You by Ryann Darling. The soft, sweet harmony rang through the park. It was a moment you just wanted to take everything in.

After the ceremony, we had yard games set up in the park– Giant Jenga, tic-tac-toe, cornhole, and ladderball. We also had a refreshment table for our guests to enjoy before heading to cocktail hour for a mead tasting featuring Prairie Bee Mead.
