Finding the Perfect Diamond

Finding the Perfect Diamond

Whether you are designing a custom ring or sending your partner some inspirational photos, there are so many elements that make up the perfect engagement ring. First, there is the overall style of the ring: modern, vintage classic, etc. Next, there is the setting and diamond shape that need to be considered. The setting that you choose may be dependent on the diamond shape you love.

Round

Referred to as a brilliant cut, the round-cut diamond is absolutely stunning. It is the traditional diamond shape but is still extremely popular, accounting for over 75 percent of all diamond sales. Round diamonds signify never-ending love. This timeless diamond is radiant in a variety of settings. Solitaire for a clean modern look or even more stunning in a halo or vintage-style setting.

Oval

Similar to a round-cut, the oval cut diamond is full of sparkle and radiance. Oval is a relatively new cut but has recently increased in popularity. Most striking when they are placed in a solitaire setting, oval diamonds really have that WOW factor. The long oval shape is a great way to elongate your fingers. Also, ovals look larger than a diamond in the same weight with a different cut.

Emerald

Glamour and elegance, the emerald cut has it all. Made popular by the art deco period of the 1920s, these diamonds are bold and daring. Often paired with two other fancy cut diamonds, the emerald cut dazzles in a three-stone setting or on its own.

Princess

The princess cut is a square-cut diamond with a rounded top. This diamond is pyramid-shaped which reflects light and creates captivating radiance. The princess cut works best in a four-prong setting to protect the corners of the diamond from chipping and wearing down over time.

Marquise

If you’re looking to stand out in a crowd the marquise is for you! The distinct cut is uniquely tapered. Essentially, a pointed oval this diamond brings drama everywhere it goes. When in a north-south setting it creates an illusion of a larger diamond which means more sparkle, more brilliance, and more fire!

Pear

Mixing the best of the marquise diamond and the oval diamond, a pear-shaped diamond resembles a twinkling teardrop. This diamond is a modified brilliant-cut, which shines like no other. A pear-shaped diamond can be wider or more elongated, depending on your preference, and don’t be surprised to see a pear shape set east-west for a unique engagement ring.
