HITCHED: Sam & Morgan

We are so excited to head into the long weekend with one of the most beautiful and breathtaking beach weddings.  Today, we're sending a heartfelt welcome to Sam and Morgan who married in an intimate ceremony in the Mayan Riviera this past winter.  Scroll on to hear all about their love story and bid day - it's really like a storybook came to life.  Grab a tissue and read on.

How did you meet?

Morgan and I met at a Halloween house party. We didn't really talk that night because we were both dressed up in ugly costumes - each of us thought the other was kinda weird. We met again at a beer night and both looked like our normal selves this time, so we chatted a bit throughout the night.

How did you know she/he was the one?

Sam: I knew Morgan was the one when I saw how easily he fit into my life. He was an instant hit with my family and friends. It didn't take long for them to see why I loved him so much.

Morgan: I knew Sam was the one because I wanted to be around her all the time and when we weren't together I was sad. I saw how much my friends and family liked her - they would always say nice things about her which I loved.

Tell us about the proposal

Morgan and I got engaged on a nice fall afternoon in Waskesiu. He took me to the High of the Land which is a wooden viewing tower that is covered with carvings of messages and names of people. He carved our initials into the wood and told me to stand by it so he could get a picture.  On the count of three, he took out the ring and asked me to marry him.

…and that ring!

My mom works at GMG Jewellers so I would frequently stop in before we got engaged to look at all the pretty rings. I went back and forth on a few styles, but in the end, I had my heart set on a classic solitaire. Needless to say Morgan had it pretty easy when he went in to see my Mom - all he had to do was pick out the perfect diamond.

When and where were you married?

Morgan and I were married January 26, 2017 in the Mayan Riviera at the Grand Palladium resort on the beach.

Tell us a bit about the day

The day was perfect. The ceremony didn't start until 4 pm so we had a nice relaxing morning with both of our families. The ceremony was just as I expected, simple and relaxed. We had 45 of our family and friends there to witness our special day. We hosted a private dinner with close family on a beautiful outdoor terrace, then, got back together with all of our friends for a beach party.  It was the perfect way to end an amazing day.

What was the most memorable moment?

Sam: For me, the most memorable moment of our day was when I read Morgan’s letter to me. We had agreed not to write our own vows but that we were going to write letters to each other to read before the wedding. Morgan isn't a very vocal person, he always says "You know how I feel" so it was nice to be able to read his feelings. It was also funny how very similar our letters to each other were.

Morgan: The most memorable moment for me was watching my soon to be wife walk down the aisle and trying my hardest not to burst into tears and look like a huge baby.

We'd love to hear how wedding planning went for you - did it go as planned?

Wedding planning was a breeze. It was all via email with our wedding coordinator. The most challenging part of planning a destination wedding for me was picking a resort. It was tough because I knew that I wasn't just picking a resort for Morgan and myself, I was picking a resort for 50 of our guests. Once the resort was determined, the rest was easy. I had found a photographer who lives in Cancun and was able to book him for our wedding. At first I thought just a few hours of pictures would suffice, but as we got closer to the date, I realized how important photos were.  We extended the time to 7 hours so he could capture each different moment - from getting ready to celebrating on the beach at our reception. I'm so happy we chose to do this.

How did you celebrate with friends and family?

We celebrated on the beach! It was amazing…  almost like scene out of a movie. It was exactly what we wanted.

Many thanks to Sam and Morgan for sharing your special day with us and to Button Up Photography for the most breathtaking photographs.
