Hitched: Courtney & Tyler

Hitched: Courtney & Tyler

Meet Courtney and Tyler.  These newlyweds celebrated their love with an evening ceremony and continued the festivities over cocktails and canapés with family and friends.  We welcome Courtney and Tyler as they share their love story.

How did you meet?

A co-worker/mutual friend was our 'matchmaker'.  Tyler was coaching football at the same school I worked at.  It was almost a blind date as we had only met briefly once before in the school hallways.

Tell us about the proposal

Tyler proposed on April Fools Day.  Ty came home from work and gave me a little box... which was a lovely pair of diamond earrings.  He knew I would be a little bit disappointed it wasn't an engagement ring.  I tried to act excited and went to the bathroom to try on the earrings and look in the mirror.  While I was putting them on, Tyler pulled out another little box and suggested I wear the diamond earrings on our wedding day! It wasn't romantic in a traditional sense but it was a proposal that reflected Tyler's great sense of humour.  And it was memorable!

...and the ring?

I absolutely love my ring- I saw a picture of it online but didn't actually see the ring until the proposal.  It is a Simon G. ring.  Sandy at GMG worked super hard to get the ring to Tyler in a short amount of time.  His family had planned a wonderful engagement party for us (before he proposed) so he had a tight timeline.  A snowstorm caused delivery delays and Sandy constantly contacted Tyler with updates.  We also chose Tyler's at GMG because of the great experience we had.

Where did you tie knot?

Our wedding day was a lot of fun.  We had an evening ceremony in the middle of winter with about 125 guests.  It was cocktail style wedding with appetizers, drinks and dessert.  We were married at The Willows and it was an absolutely wonderful experience.  The staff had a lot of little extras for us that we weren't expecting, along with amazing service! It was a great party and our guests danced the night away!

How did wedding planning go for you?

Wedding planning wasn't something I really enjoyed.  Tyler and I decided to keep things simple and not ask too much from other people.  Some of the fun DIY projects Tyler and I made for the wedding was a homemade backdrop, a broach bouquet, and birch inspired decor.  Because we didn't have a traditional wedding party we were not limited to specific colours- it was fun to just decorate with whatever colours I thought worked well together.

What was your favourite part of the day?

Our favourite part of the day was our 'first look' photoshoot.  It was a really great moment with just Tyler and I (and our wonderful photographers) before our guests arrived and everything became busy and crazy.  I also really enjoyed getting ready with my mom in the morning.  Another moment that stands out is the night before the wedding my grandma repaired a small rip in the lace of my dress.  We talked about her wedding dress and it made me feel like I was really getting married.  And I was very grateful for her sewing skills!
