Mar 29 HITCHED: Whitney & Darren

We're so excited to welcome Whitney and Darren back to In Bloom. They recently shared all the beautiful details of their engagement story and today are sharing memories of their incredible wedding day. Let's get right into their interview...

When and where were you married?

We were married at 5:00pm on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Knox United Church on Spadina Crescent in Saskatoon. The reception was a short walk down to the Sheraton Cavalier.

Tell us a bit about the day

First on the agenda was hair and make-up (well, actually it was a homemade omelet hubby-to-be whipped up)! No bridal party made for a simple day! My mom and I had hair appointments at 10:00am at Capelli Salon Studio where our photographer Heather Posnikoff (Forty7 Imagery) met us, then off to Lisa Hallam’s house at 11:30am for make-up. I should mention here that Lisa had a brand new puppy and she definitely stole the show! Being a dog lover, she put me at ease and totally calmed any shaky nerves I had! Darren and I both got dressed and ready to go in our new home which made for a beautiful and special backdrop. Did I mention we sold our house and moved exactly one month prior to the wedding?! You could say it was a busy fall. We got our ‘first look’ and half of our formal pictures done right on the Greenbryre Golf Course where we live. We truly lucked out with the weather! October 1st and 2nd were mostly sunny and the rest of the month was cloudy and dreary. Then it was off to the second location, just down by the river and bridges for some more formal and lots of family pictures. Then of course was the wedding and reception!

What was the most memorable moment (for each of you)

Whitney: how thoughtful, calm, and supportive Darren was all day long. He made me breakfast in the morning, and found time in the afternoon to get lunch delivered to the house while we got ready. Also, my parent’s ‘Thank You’ speech was second to none! A true tear jerker!

Darren: Watching Whitney walk towards me coming down the isle. And the speeches: the toast to the couple and Whitney's parents 'Thank You' speech was very heartfelt and emotional for all.

We'd love to hear how wedding planning went for you - did it go as planned? Any changes to style, etc as you got closer to your wedding date?

Wedding planning and events went fairly seamlessly! Again, we aimed to have a simple yet elegant day so we tried not to incorporate too many unnecessary details, but nonetheless, it’s still a big job! Whatever didn’t go as planned, no one really knew about anyways. Don’t sweat the small stuff, right?! We didn’t have any style changes – we knew what we wanted, but because we had over a 2 year engagement, it was difficult to not keep adding things because time had allowed for more ideas. Put Pinterest away!

How did you celebrate with friends and family (a bit about the wedding reception)

After the wedding ceremony, we walked to the Sheraton where we hosted cocktails at 6:00pm, dinner at 7:00pm, three short toasts at 8:00pm, and dance and photo booth to follow!

Were you able to make plans for a honeymoon after?

Although we haven’t taken a formal honeymoon, we’ve gone on three holidays since our wedding: Puerto Vallarta, Florida, and California… let’s just call them pre-honeymoon trips! Our hope is to dedicate four weeks to tour Thailand, Malaysia, south to Bali and possibly Australia. Neither of us have been there before and can’t wait to discover the culture together!
