Hitched - Karla & Trent

Hitched - Karla & Trent

Cute couple alert!  Karla and Trent tied the knot July 2015 in Eston, Saskatchewan and are joining us today to share their love story along with the details of their very special wedding day.

How did you first meet?

Trent and I met in February of 2013. Actually, we had met many times before but aside from a casual introduction, we had never spent any time getting to know each other.  At the time, I was in a relationship, so he became this guy that I was introduced to over and over again but never remembered. It became a bit of a running joke so when we ran into each other one night, he approached me and asked if I remembered who he was. By this time, I recognized him as the guy I could never remember, but again, still couldn't think of his name! We had a good laugh about it and spent some time getting to know each other. Although I was no longer in a relationship, it still took him weeks of convincing.  I finally agreed to a date!  On February 20, 2013, we went for supper at Las Palapas in Saskatoon - my favorite restaurant I might add!  He didn't know this and wasn't telling me where we were going either so he impressed me right off the bat.

When did you know he was the one?

It wasn't long before we were spending as much of our free time together as possible. I lived in Saskatoon and he on his farm so we put many miles on going back and forth for the next year - sometimes back and forth up to three times a week! We spent some time travelling in the winter of 2013 and it was after spending those long periods of time together that we both knew we couldn't be apart. We quickly made plans for me to move to the farm. I lucked out and landed a job much sooner than expected as a dental assistant in Kindersley. I moved in with Trent in February of 2014. That summer, we were engaged!

Tell us all about the engagement!

He made a day trip to Saskatoon for "parts" and because wedding bells had been a topic of discussion, I had an inkling that those "parts" might include a diamond.  We were leaving for a weekend at the lake the next day and being the romantic that he is, I thought for sure he would take advantage of a beautiful sunset or a walk on the beach to seal the deal.   Although he didn't know exactly how he was going to do it, he claims that waiting until we were at the lake was his original plan. However, he just couldn't wait! The next morning, we were getting ready to go & he seemed like he was in a rush and was ready and pacing the house before I had even started packing! I was still in my pajamas & in the middle of putting on my makeup when he decided he just couldn't wait any longer! He told me to put the eyeliner down and got down on one knee right there in the middle of our bedroom. Of course I said yes & we celebrated that weekend with 30 or more relatives at the lake! This day was extra special to me because I had a sister who passed away 13 years prior and the day Trent proposed (August 1,2014) was what would have been her 30th birthday.  What a memorable day!

How did wedding planning go?  What was your favourite part of it?  And least favourite part?

I didn't particularly enjoy much of the event planning so it’s a good thing Trent did!  My favorite part was him coming home at the end of a day on the tractor and telling me about all of the ideas he had come up with.

When and where were you married?

We were married on July 25, 2015 in Trent's hometown of Eston, SK.  Being that we now live and farm near Eston, it seemed like the most logical place. I grew up in Elrose not too far away as well so it was close for my family as well. The wedding ceremony was held at the Full Gospel Church in Eston and the reception was at the curling rink. We chose to have it there because we had over 400 guests and needed a venue that would accommodate everyone.
