True Love: Emily & Paul

Meet Emily and Paul.  Married for six years, their love-story is the perfect romance. Best friends, parents and partners, these two are the definition of true love.

How and when did you meet?

Paul and I met in the spring of 2005, through mutual friends. We hit it off immediately and have been together ever since.

How did you know he/she was the one?

Shortly after we met, Paul went to China to travel for a month. I think that absence really made the heart grow fonder, so to speak. After he returned, we definitely realized how much to each other...and the rest, as they say, is history!

A little about the proposal?

I was in grad school, which meant lots of long days. I came home one night around 9pm, and Paul had a million candles lit all around our home, and, with one of our favourite songs playing, got down on one knee and proposed! It was an amazing experience, and something that I will never forget. I was so surprised!

...and the big day?

We were married in January 2010 in Saskatoon. It was an unusually warm, sunny day and we had the BEST time with our family and friends. We couldn't have asked for a better day. I don't think I've ever danced so much in my life!

You've been married for 6 years.  What are the best moments of your life together?

We have had some incredible moments together. Traveling together is something very special to us, especially our trip to Tanzania, where we climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and did a safari through the Serengeti. It was truly the trip of a lifetime. But by far the most special moment we've shared was the birth of our daughters.

What do you look forward to most in the future?

Paul and I are really loving watching our girls grow up. As they get older, we are enjoying the opportunity do new things with them and experience the world through their eyes. At least once a day, Paul and I are laughing about something funny or cute one of our kids have done! We are looking forward to continuing to watch them learn and grow, and we can't wait to travel with them.

Do you have any marriage advice for our readers?

I am not sure that I have any advice, per se, but I know that what has made our relationship so successful thus far is that we really are best friends and partners. We enjoy each other's company and try never to take one another for granted.
